How to Measure Pleasure and Pain in Your Life

Jemry bentham had a very clear cut view about what happiness was. His dream was to come up with a theory according to which we could measure the amounts of pleasure that we get from different activities and then produce the greatest good in that rather mathematical way. But his pupil, john stuart mill, reacted quite strongly against some components of that theory. And this led him to bring together the empiricist, hedonistic arian strand in his education with a more romantic, sentimentalist rand from the continent.
