At least 6 million people in the United States have Alzheimer's disease. Tau is something that will develop into an equivalent called a neurofibrillary tangle in cells. Alpha's in nuclein on the other hand does the same thing. These are actual proteins that, due to misfolding, end up inside the neurons themselves.
