The Censorship Capabilities of the Online Controls
The sheer volume of posts about the initial protests, about the incidents Xinjiang, just general frustration with COVID policy in China, this was coming at such a volume that the sensors just couldn't keep up. We started to see the mass deletion of content, some sites just completely wiping everything that was posted in the last 24 hours. And we've also started to see now the surveillance side of the online controls really start to kick in people being called in to police local police stations. People have been stopped in search and having their phone search for any illicit apps like VPNs or, you know, encrypted messaging apps,. Also for any photos or messages they might have about the protests.
