More than 45,000 people cross the channel in small boats last year. 23% of all those who claim asylum in the UK are initially rejected one third of those who appeal are successful. The home office says there are safe and legal routes to the UK. Only those who arrive using unofficial routes will be sent to Rwanda for processing and settlement or for British national status holders in Hong Kong.
