POI is an umbrella term for anybody that goes through menopause before their natural age. For 80 to 90% of women with this diagnosis, the ovaries just stop working for no reason at all. It can be due to genetic conditions like fragile X syndrome or tournus syndrome. So it's 1 in 100 women under 40, 1 in 1,000 between the age of 30 and 20,. Then 1 in 10,000 under 20, and then 1 in 100,000 to 24 puberty.
