I'm Not Painting Over Other People's Experiences
I think for me, it goes me just this humble appreciation for people in the sense of, I never feel like I have the answers. Because I've worked with two dozen or so couples that have had violence as a part of their relationship. How do you stick to the lens of your own experience? Or do you try to kind of conceptualize what something might be like for someone else that's outside of your experience? It definitely depends on sort of the themes of that specific poem or specific piece of writing.
