Jefferson's Foresightedness in Politics
Without Jefferson in politics, our political party system would have developed very differently. He had great confidence that American republicanism owing to the principle of federalism would enable the United States to extend far beyond what a northern federalist thought was possible or desirable. The detail of his wording suggests this. Where did that come from? Oh, just tell you one thing. He invented a machine that would make copies of his letters. It's part of the reason we have such a terrific set of his correspondence.
