Where the Wild Things Are

In the Pinocchio stories, Colaudia wants his child readers to understand that being a good boy or girl means being in a proper relationship to one's parents. There's something inside of Pinocchio even with his wooden head and all the rest of it that draws him to these kinds of relationships. And so, when Sendak says it's a dark tale, it's not at all. In the end, it's an affirmation of the inherent goodness of human beings even though he falls into one bad situation after another.
