Is the Government Holding the Private Keys?

I don't know enough about Zappo to know about, but are they holding the private keys in these vaults themselves? It seems to me that in a system where they're actually just storing devices without the keys, it wouldn't really matter if the government was at the door because they would still need you to put in either the pin or the passcode. I think we, a fundamental human right is to be as illegible as you want to be. The key gain here is making you more illegible to the state. There's a way and they can expropriate it. But they don't know what's on there until they do so. So James C. Scott
