APOE4 and Alzheimer's Disease
The discovery that APOE4 associates with weight of AD risk has shifted the playfield and now APOE4 is at the center of Alzheimer's disease. The main question was how did the nervous system, specifically neurons and glia and microglia and astrocytes, how are they different from the rest of the cells in the body? In itself, that is also a very general question. But the fact that there are different in certain ways, kind of frames why the structure is different, why the energetics is different, and why the blood brain barrier and all of that would be a wonderful place to start.
