Conway's strategy is she really doesn't actually need to win the argument. All she needs to do is create something that looks if you squint kind of like an argument. She only has to create a space for somebody who wants to believe there's an argument to have one on their side. And I think that this is really the deeper phenomenon behind this phenomenon we're now calling fake news. It's because when people are strongly motivated to believe something, they will grab onto anything that helps them with that gut belief.
