The History of Saudi Arabia
King Sahuud, the founder of Saudi Arabia developed close ties with the United States after unifying his country in 1928. In May 1931, the US officially recognized Saudi Arabia by extending full diplomatic recognition. The relationship between Saudi Arabia and the United States was economically strengthened in 1933 when standard oil was given concession to explore the Saudi Arabia lands for oil. World War II, as the US-Saudi relationship was growing slowly, World War II was beginning its first phase with Saudi Arabia remaining neutral. This negligence left Saudi Arabia vulnerable to attack, Italy in Axis power bombed the oil producing region crippling Saudi Arabia's oil production.
