The Importance of Trade in the Industrial Revolution
Trading was an opportunity for inter-religious interaction. People don't have to like each other in order to do business with each other. The most powerful people are the merchants, they're the middleman between the producer and the purchaser. They need what we call credit instruments - travelers checks or letters of exchange. There's no ATM in the Middle Ages.
