There is a very easy fix for the hobit movies that they could have done and chose not to. The fix is that instead of having bilbo in his old age writing the book, he is telling the story to prodo. And you can back every once in a while to phrodo and bilbo, with phroto being like, there's no way that happened. But imagine what would have happened thematically, to the audience when you cut back to phroto and were like, oh right, yabos just exaggerating.
