Luke was portrayed as a human being, not an archetype. He had like the one two punch of trama - something really bad happens to you. And it seemed to me like that part of what luke was doing, also, is that he was punishing himself for what he almost did to his nephew. The idea that sometimes people who experience trama find different ways to kind of punish themselves.
