The Importance of David in the Gospel of Matthew

The Gospels recognize that history rhymes in some ways. What happened with David happens again in the story of Christ. There's a sense that God is doing the same thing but he's there's a twist. And so you read those two stories alongside each other at certain points you see there are parallels here. At other points you seeThere's something significant about the fact that the magicians are not the bad guys this time. This is not just a message of the law's defeat of Gentile and pagan opponents. It's the story of the Lord bringing in the kings of the Gentiles who bring their gifts as we see in Isaiah. The nations are going to come in.
