Shapf believed that if extinction is truly random, then as a whole, species are sort of in distinct like they have no real differences between one another. Schock began writing a book trying to flush out this theory, but in 19 84, at the age of forty four, he died suddenly of a hart attack. While reporting this story, we talked to some paleontologists. The answer we got is that we still don't know what drives extinction.
