Many people who suffered from ailments such as paranoia, dyslexia, Parkinson's, or mere skin conditions, like psoriasis, were regarded as possessed. Up until the late 1800s, victims of Tourette syndrome were easy targets due to their involuntary outbursts of blasphemies and obscenities. The most severe variant being dissociative identity disorder, or DID, where the subject constructs separate personalities or alters. In potential cases of conjoined mental illness and demonic attachment, it is highly necessary for the exorcists to work closely with medical professionals in order to practice careful discernment.
