Kerry wants to protect a man who cannot admit he needs his kids. The plot is Kerry calls the kids and asks them to call their father, which is fine but relatively boring. In season four, episode one, the negotiation is about whether or not they will call him on his birthday. "The structure are the painful emotional choices these characters are making that lead to everybody getting hurt," she said.
