The Challenge of the Gorn
In the original series, the gorn was like a guy in a lizard suit. So understanding that you really have an expensive proposition, you have to find a way to reinvent them for modern audiences. kevot had this idea that there's a truism in startrack, which is that if we just come to an understanding with other species, with other aliens, we will eventually find something t a we can connect with. And so it gave us a chance to look at cannon from a different perspective.
