Is BMI a Predictor of Exercise Energy Compensation?

BMI seems to be predictive of compensation values, but there are a few things that could be going on. Is high exercise energy compensation a hereditary characteristic that predisposes someone to developing a higher BMI? It's kind of a chicken and egg scenario, and an observational study like this doesn't really give us an opportunity to answer that with a high degree of confidence. Another question is whether people with higher BMI's in these studies are simply more likely to be intentionally restricting energy intake.
