The Importance of Group a Plasma
Only 4% of people in the United States are group AB. That makes it impossible for blood banks to keep up with that demand. A number of years ago, several centers started looking at using group A plasma instead of group O. It turned out that they didn't find any hemolytic transfusion reactions even in those incompatible people. But there's about 15% of the population that could potentially have a problem with getting group A plasma.
