The Ad Hoc Hypothesis of Greco-Roman Biography

This is what we philosophers call an ad hoc hypothesis. It would seem that Matthew and John and Mark would not plausibly have known about such special record Roman literary devices. There is no independent evidence of these sort of co-authors. The genre designation only works to prevent the audience from being deceived if there was a kind of an unspoken understanding between the author and the audience. If the gospel authors required the special information in order to know this we have no reason to think that their audience knew it as well.
