Taiwan is often referred to as the Austronesian homeland, and the Philippines as the Malayo Polynesian homeland. Some of these people also found their way to the Southeast Asian mainland where they were spoken in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and parts of the Malay Peninsula. And today, 400 million speakers of these Austronesian languages are spread out over 30 countries.
