The Role of a Perioperative Clinical Pharmacy Specialist

After residency, I wanted to come back to the Midwest space and I wanted to work at a large academic medical center. At Barnish Hospital there was a position for the perioperative clinical pharmacy specialist. No one really knew exactly what this person or what this position was going to do. But we did know that the clinical chief of anesthesia, who is a C.P. Anesthesiologist I trade and also rounded in the ICU, loved his ICU pharmacist and said we need one of these in periops.
