More countries still officially espouse this doctrine than ever before. In 1946 the French Communist Party had more votes and seats than any other party. Yet in the 2022 elections they struggled to get 3% of the vote. Their membership meanwhile has declined tenfold since the 1970s. At the International Spy Museum we have key artifact that speaks to the intellectual history of not just communism, but of the 20th century and indeed the modern age. The ASACs that were used to kill Leon Trotsky and a covert operation planned by the NKVD at the behest of Joseph Stalin.
