The Rise of Logic
In the 17th century, Bacon was very interested in how you do science. It looked as though Aristotelian syllogistic logic was much less used to you than inductive reasoning and super-inducing theory. So it seemed Rosanni Keefe that logic was out for a while. But then George Bull came up with an abstract system of algebraic laws which he took to govern logic. He could use those to assess arguments, show arguments to be valid. And if you think of zero as corresponding to falsity and one to truth, then you get a propositional logic - just like Stoics wanted.
