How to Be a Good Reader
Our brains did not evolve to do this naturally. Our early human ancestors didn't read, so there's not a part of the brain that's labeled the reading part. About 5,000 years ago, people in the Middle East came up with the system to write down the words and ideas that had been spoken for generations. Even after reading started, it still took a long time in history for reading and writing to catch on.
