The Importance of Metrics in Product Development

The key results are the quantitative measures that tell us whether or not we've actually achieved the objective. And those metrics have to be outcomes, measures of human behavior. To me, those are the most important and they need to be verifiable with evidence. For example, bounce rate is human behavior. That's always my counter. The one I was thinking of was homepage load time. We want to improve homepage load time by 50%. But it's not a measure of human behaviour. It's a measure of the system. If you reduce bounce rate by 50%, that's a measureof human behavior. Those are the objectives. Say it again. They're metrics. And most importantly, they
