More than a thousand Laccademonians, including at least 400 of their grand warrior nobles were killed. This was the greatest military defeat in Sparta's recorded history. In this crisis, all the Spartans now fought back to those ancient omens that circulated around the time of the old king's coronation. On top of all their losses, now their enemies are exultant, and their city is now dangerously unguarded.
