What Is Buddhist Modernism?
Buddhist exceptionalism is the idea that Buddhism either isn't really a religion, it's a philosophy or a way of life or a mind science. So this idea is a major, major strand of what historians call Buddhist modernism. This form of Buddhism gets exported to the West and is the kind of Buddhism that Westerners encounter. It becomes a sort of transnational kind of lingua franca for modern Buddhism.
