In the early days of a product, when it's not very clear who the customer segment might be and who exactly it's being built for, a lot of the work might be spent actually talking to users. If you're someone who really cares about spending time with end customers and hearing from them in customer interviews and user research sessions, this is a great part of the product lifecycle to be focusing on. Then finally, if you're more focused on the growth parts of the product, so if you're focused on growing users or growing revenue, a lots of the work tends to be more quantitative and analytical in nature.
