The government has always described the area around Trinity as remote and uninhabited. But when you do a map of New Mexico using the 1940 census data, nothing could be further from the truth. Within a 50 mile radius of Trinity, there were 15,000 children, men and women living there. If you draw the radius to 150 miles, there's half a million people. The government had drawn up evacuation plans for local communities but decided not to act on them.
