Feminist Criticism of Women Artists by Lucy Lipard

The female is not the object but they're the subject of bourgeois's work. She was a generation of women artists who were entirely ambivalent about what it meant to declare oneself as feminist which really meant affiliating with a particular group. The fact that she is making this comment about society at this time and the fact that especially women in the 40s I mean women are still very trapped in this day and age but in the40s they really didn't have this freedom in a way absolutely.
