What Was Life Like in Saint Genevieve?

30 to 40 per cent of saint genevieve's population was enslaved. Slavery here was based on codnoir, which was the french slave system. They also were not allowed to break up families. Once a child turns a certain age or goes through puberty, you can sell them as a separate individual. And so we do see free people of color become a part of this community and then that plays into a whole different side of the story.
