JavaScript and the DOM
The original DOM was created by Brandon Eich alongside JavaScript. The ECMAScript standard has nothing specifically about the DOM, and the DOM itself can theoretically be manipulated by other programming languages. It's actually interesting that a lot of people think that DOM is a part of JavaScript because, like Amy said, it seems to be what JavaScript was created for. But it's actually a separate thing.
