The Society of 1789 - A History of the Revolution
Almost every member of the society of 17 89 will wind up either dead or in exile. The liberal nobles were absolutely in the driver's seat and appeared to control the paris commune, the national assembly and the royal ministry. But as quickly as they had risen to power, history would soon dispense with them. Outside the orbit of the revolution, however, were the unreconstructed conservatives on the far right of the political spectrum,. many of whom were now choosing voluntary exile rather than submitting to the new order.
