In may this year, mexico's register of missing people as people whohave officially been registered as missing and haven't been found. Surpassed a hundred thousand cases. More than 80 % of these people on the register went missing since then. Many people lost and are just not found again. And when they are, it's often dug out of a mass grave somewhere in the desert.

The city remains Ukraine’s only provincial capital to be taken by Russian forces—can Ukraine overcome its shortages of manpower and firepower to retake the province? Mexico’s official missing-persons list has topped 100,000; our correspondent describes the skyrocketing total and piecemeal efforts to slow its rise.
