Introduction

Christianity is, in essence, a personality cult. At the centre of its message is an individual person, jesus. His historical rooting as person in a particular time and place is emphasized by the very ordinariness of that name. The first surviving christian literature was a story about how jesus died. Christian history is also the story of a book, the christian bible, which is actually a library of books.
