"This is what I'm learning as an American, as a Western scientist doing science in a place where people have a historical and indigenous relationship to an animal," he says. "I really believe that's the very Western way of thinking of it." The idea that human wildlife conflict has to all be contentious or people have to feel antagonistic against it just because there's a conflict isn't true, she adds.
