The Effects of Sleep on Intrusive Memories of Trauma

There's a moment in time that you can disrupt and in some way prevent these traumatic memories from being laid down. This is the very first experiment that's shown this. So it looks like there is a critical window. It's generally thought once memories are consolidated, it's perhaps more difficult to modify them. And so we drew on theory from more basic neuroscience about memory re-consolidation.
