The Interplay Between the State Media and the Independent Media in China

Chinese state media is very rigid and top down. It produces packages that speak to people like in my grandparents generation who like the predictability of the seven o'clock news. Sean Haynes: How they manage to co-opt or work with independent content generators will be an interesting interplay to watch. Howard Zhang: The reason for all these propaganda machines is to preserve, it's like a self preservation society to preserve the power of the Communist Party and the current regime of rule. To do that, they have already secured the Chinese sphere. Joshua Kolansic: They're restricting not only information flowing out of China through the firewall, but also trying to research into Chinese archives becoming increasingly difficult
