The Conservative Party's Plan to Build Houses on the Greenbelt Plays Bad for Locals
The dominant strand of thinking is more on the sort of NIMBY side of things. Rishi Sunak kind of blinked with a planning reform bill because he knew there was going to be a lot of rebels that were going to make it his biggest defeat. And so he rather than face that, he backed off and the sort of targets got dropped. They are still sort of nominally committed to this sort of national house building target of 300,000 by the mid-2020s. But in the post-PMQ huddle that we have with spokespeople from number 10 and the PM's press secretary, they were very wishy-washy about it.
