The Crime Survey of England and Wales Says Crime Is Falling
Eight years ago, out of every seven offences committed, one would result in a charge. Now it's out of every 20 offences committed, just one would be charged. The Ministry of Justice says crime overall is falling but this doesn't change the fact that charges and cautions has fallen dramatically. So why is this happening? I think you have to look at the long-term trends - we're actually seeing a record number of sexual offences. And sexual offences are more complex in many cases to investigate and to solve. They take longer. It's always been the case that some people will get away with it.
