Introduction
This is a broadcast from the archives of the b b c. Wreath lectures. This lecture in the series, science and the common understanding, was originally broadcast in 19 53. For some moments during these lectures, we have looked together into one of the rooms of the house called science. It is a relatively quiet room that we know as quantum theory or atomic theory. Young people visit it and study in and pass on to other chambers. All about there are busy workshops where the builders are active. And very near, indeed, are those of us who hope some day for chambers as fair and lovely as that in which we have spent the years of our youth and our prime.
