The Second French Revolution
In 1792, a coalition army led by King Louis of France tried to take Paris. But two small French armies slipped behind and cut them off from the road back to Belgium. Brunswick had no choice but to turn around and try to clear it before he could continue his advance. The only feasible option was to detour around the ridge at Valmy and return to Belgium,. giving up all the gains of years' campaign.
