The History of the Reichstag

The 1930 election made it challenging for a government to form. It also was the beginning of a period in which it was hard for the Reichstag to function at all. To continue to have a national government, Chancellor Bruning would be forced to use emergency decrees. The social democrats having been clearly defeated by parties which endorsed this violence, began to move towards supporting it as well. In 1931, support among business leaders from some of the larger industrial firms began to increase rapidly.
