Alyssa: I underrated my pain, so I wouldn't frustrate or confound these doctors whose job it was to heal me. And oddly enough, that was part of the problem because this experience, as every experience living in a patriarchy, is demoralizing, depressing, anxiety-inducing, traumatic.
