In 2015, when we started the company, I was like traumatized by my first experience in wanting to like not raise money, even if it meant a small business. And so all of the venture capital for subscription based businesses dried up and so all of them scrambled and either sold. So plated sold to Albertsons, green chef sold to HelloFresh or went under.
Mike Salguero is the founder and CEO of ButcherBox, a revolutionary direct-to-consumer meat business that transformed eCommerce when it launched in 2015. Salguero founded the company as a side project, but quickly scaled it into a thriving business with over half-a-billion dollars in annual revenue in 2022.
