The Attention Economy and the Creative Process

The attention economy carries with it the idea that if time is money you would need to have something to show at the end of having spent a certain amount of time. That's problematic for something like a creative process because as anyone who's made anything knows a large part of the of the process doesn't look like anything. I teach art students at Sanford and a lot of them well I teach art to students who have not taken art classes so I have to explain to them that they should always leave twice as much time as they think is possible or is necessary for their projects. You have to just kind of blindly trust that you need to even though it doesn't appear on your calendar.
